A Chinese Blue Sky Rescue team joined the search in the rubble of a collapsed building in Eastleigh, Nairobi, and detected two people alive in the basement, according to MP Yusuf Hassan. Its specialised detection equipment is supporting rescue operations, Tuko reports.

A Chinese search and rescue team detected two people alive in the basement of the collapsed building in Nairobi’s Eastleigh neighbourhood, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan announced. Rescuers from the Blue Sky Rescue organisation joined the operations with specialised equipment capable of locating people beneath the rubble.

Chinese company Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group also provided an excavator and a 25-tonne crane to clear the debris, according to William Sifuna Watitwa, the personnel officer for the Nairobi North sub-region. The excavator helped rescue two people on Saturday, he said; the crane is being used to lift the heaviest elements.

Blue Sky Rescue is a Chinese emergency response organisation founded in 2007 and specialising in searching for survivors during disasters. In August 2026, it entered into a partnership with the Kenya Red Cross to strengthen disaster preparedness and create urban search and rescue teams in the counties.

Operations are continuing after the rescue of six survivors in Nairobi, announced on 27 October. Four other survivors had been hospitalised, according to the assessment published on 26 October.
