Senegalese MP Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Youm says he was the only committee member to vote in favour of the 2026 supplementary finance bill. He justified his decision by the text’s expected impact on purchasing power, according to Senego.

Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Youm, a Senegalese MP and secretary-general of the Parti de l’unité et du rassemblement (PUR), says he was the only parliamentarian to vote in favour of the 2026 supplementary finance bill (LFR) in committee. He justified his decision by the text’s expected impact on Senegalese people’s purchasing power, according to Senego.

« I believe it will have an impact on our fellow citizens’ purchasing power, » the MP said in explaining his vote. The 2026 LFR is being examined as its adoption causes disagreements between the government and several parliamentary groups.

Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Youm’s position came after the rejection of Senegal’s supplementary budget, criticised on 24 October 2026 by Oumar Youm, an opposition political figure. It also came after PASTEF’s five demands, put forward on 23 October 2026 in order to support the text.
