Celebrities criticised over their Halloween costumes

Several celebrities have faced criticism for their Halloween costumes, including Kate Cassidy after a fake-blood scene and Tana Mongeau as Erika Kirk. Reactions denounced costumes considered inappropriate in light of recent deaths or assassinations, reports L’essentiel.

American influencer Kate Cassidy drew criticism after posting Halloween photos on Instagram in which she appeared covered in fake blood, reports Swiss media outlet L’essentiel. Internet users considered the costume tasteless, as Liam Payne, her partner and former member of One Direction, died in 2024 after falling from a balcony in Argentina.

American influencer Tana Mongeau dressed up as Erika Kirk, the widow of American political activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead in 2025. She accompanied a video of the costume with a message saying she was not sure she regretted her choice. Internet users denounced a cruel joke at the expense of a woman whose husband had been murdered.

American actress Julia Fox was also criticised in 2025 for portraying Jackie Kennedy in a blood-stained pink suit after the assassination of US president John F. Kennedy. She defended the choice by explaining that Jackie Kennedy had refused to remove her bloodstained clothes so that the public could see the consequences of the assassination. L’essentiel also mentions a costume worn by actress Emily Hampshire as Johnny Depp, without giving any further details about the reactions it sparked.
