Cameroon will implement a 90-day roadmap to prevent Ebola importation and strengthen case detection, diagnosis and treatment. Planned from 2 November to 31 January, it will involve all regions and 13 government departments, according to Alwihda Info.
Cameroon will implement a 90-day roadmap from 2 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 to strengthen its preparedness against the risk of imported Ebola virus disease. The plan was presented on 28 October by the director of the Department for Disease Control and Epidemics at a meeting chaired by the Minister of Public Health, according to Alwihda Info.
The plan will involve all regions of the country and 13 focal points from several government departments. It notably provides for stronger epidemiological surveillance, rapid response teams, laboratory diagnosis, case management, infection prevention and risk communication. Land borders with Nigeria and international airports are priorities after a case was detected in the neighbouring country, according to Alwihda Info.
The roadmap allocates its budget between preparedness, a contingency reserve and a response reserve. It is intended to enable any imported case to be detected, isolated, confirmed and treated quickly, while the cumulative toll in affected countries has reached 10,000 cases and 4,757 deaths, according to the same source. The announcement follows the activation of Cameroon’s emergency response to Ebola in Nigeria on 22 October.
