Cairo’s municipality plans to introduce a single kiosk model across the streets of the Egyptian capital. The structures will measure 2 × 3 metres or 3 × 3 metres and will include a fire extinguisher and an electricity meter, among other features, according to the Cairo governor quoted by Al-Youm al-Sabea.

The standardised kiosks that the Cairo governorate plans to deploy in the capital’s streets will measure 2 metres by 3 or 3 metres by 3. They will be equipped with a fire extinguisher and an electricity meter, among other things, with spaces for refrigerators, drinks and confectionery, as well as shelves for food and other products, Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber said.

Each kiosk will be managed electronically using a QR code placed on its façade. Scanning it with a phone will display the licence holder’s name, the street and district concerned, and the permit’s start and expiry dates. The governorate is also considering requiring vendors to wear a uniform. The project is part of preparations for standardised kiosks in its districts.
