FC Barcelona beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 thanks to two goals from Fermín López and moved three points clear at the top of La Liga. The Catalans now lead Real Madrid, while Atlético remain third, according to Vanguard.

Fermín López scored both goals for Spanish champions FC Barcelona in their 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday 8 November. Giuliano Simeone had opened the scoring for Atlético in the 10th minute before López equalised shortly before half-time and then put Barça ahead in the 66th minute from a pass by Lamine Yamal, Vanguard reports.

The victory gives FC Barcelona a three-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, who beat Valencia 3-0 on Saturday. Atlético Madrid remain third, five points behind the leaders. López now has seven goals in eleven La Liga appearances this season, according to Vanguard.

The match began at a high tempo, with both Atlético and Barça hitting the woodwork. Argentine Julián Álvarez notably missed an opportunity to extend the lead before the match turned around. Barça then held on to their advantage until the final whistle, ahead of the international break.
