Sudanese football club Al Merrikh sacked coach Darko Novic hours after a 3-0 win over Etoile de l'Est, which lifted the team to third in the league. The Serbian coach had joined in 2025 and his departure follows failure in the African Champions League.

Sudanese football club Al Merrikh SC sacked its Serbian coach Darko Novic hours after a 3-0 win over Etoile de l'Est on Sunday. The victory lifted the team to third in the league, according to The New Times.

The club's management had already been considering Novic's departure after he failed to qualify Al Merrikh for the CAF Champions League group stage. The Serbian coach joined the Sudanese club in 2025 after leaving Rwanda's APR FC, reports The New Times.

Al Merrikh has not yet officially announced Novic's successor. The club must now continue the league with the aim of maintaining its position among the leading teams, according to The New Times.
