France beat Fiji 54-17 on Saturday in the Nations Championship, reclaiming top spot in the northern part of the competition. France are two points ahead of Ireland before England's match against Australia on Sunday, reports The Namibian.
The French victory was nevertheless marked by an injury to Romain Ntamack, who was playing at fly-half alongside captain Antoine Dupont for the first time since March 2025. The Toulouse player apparently dislocated his shoulder while attempting to ground the ball before France's third try. With Mathieu Jalibert already ruled out, France should face South Africa without their two main fly-halves, reports The Namibian.
Jean-Baptiste Gros, Sipili Falatea, Aaron Grandidier-Nkanang, Kalvin Gourgues, Théo Attissogbe, Charles Ollivon and Antoine Dupont scored for France, who also benefited from a penalty try. Fiji, beaten for the fourth consecutive time in this first edition of the Nations Championship, replied with tries from Vinaya Habosi and Selestino Ravutaumada, reports The Namibian.
France must now face world champions South Africa in their next match. France have lost nine of their last 10 meetings with the Springboks, according to The Namibian.
