Arsenal will contest the red card received by 16-year-old midfielder Max Dowman during their League Cup elimination against Fleetwood. Sent off for violent conduct, the player faces a three-match suspension after making contact with an opponent, Nile Post reports.

Arsenal will appeal the red card given to young midfielder Max Dowman during their defeat by Fleetwood Town in the English League Cup round of 16. Sent off directly in the 85th minute for an action deemed violent after a challenge with Harrison Neal, the 16-year-old faces a three-match suspension, Nile Post reports.

The match ended 1-1 before Fleetwood Town, a fourth-tier English club, won 5-3 on penalties. It was Dowman’s second red card in October, after his dismissal while playing for England Under-19s. Arsenal already have several absentees on the wings, including Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke, before their Premier League trip to Liverpool on Sunday, according to Nile Post.

The appeal comes the day after Arsenal’s elimination by Fleetwood Town in the League Cup round of 16, announced on 27 October.
