The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) opened an investigation on Friday 23 October into the shooting that left one person dead and at least four injured in Trappes and La Verrière, in the Yvelines department. The investigation concerns, in particular, murders and attempted murders in connection with a terrorist undertaking, according to AFP.
The suspected perpetrator, who allegedly fired randomly from a car, was arrested in Coignières and placed in police custody. The Pnat is also examining the possession of a category A weapon and a terrorist criminal conspiracy to prepare crimes against individuals. The investigation was assigned to the Anti-Terrorism Sub-Directorate, the zonal directorates of the national police and the General Directorate for Internal Security.
The shots were fired at about 10.30am. Trappes mayor Ali Rabeh said that the gunman was “clearly firing at random and wanted to cause a massacre”. A 12-year-old girl was reportedly among the injured, according to Le Parisien, while some victims were in a life-threatening condition late in the morning.
The opening of the anti-terrorism investigation came on the same day as the first report on the shooting in Yvelines, published on 23 October, which reported one death and four injuries.
