Amateur MMA fighter Pengo Bossio Wangi, aged 26, was shot dead on Friday in Yvelines, France, between Trappes and La Verrière. His alleged killer is said to have wanted to target people from immigrant backgrounds, reports Kassataya.
Originally from Poissy, Pengo Bossio Wangi had three wins and four defeats in seven amateur bouts. He fought Agathon Ebessa twice, in May and June 2024, losing by TKO and then by submission. Ebessa paid tribute to a “good guy” and a “true rival”.
La Atch Academy, the club where he trained, paid tribute to him, describing him as present, respectful and always ready to encourage others. A video of a bout held in December 2024 in Corbeil-Essonnes shows him winning by unanimous decision.
Pengo Bossio Wangi’s death comes amid the Trappes shooting, which French President Emmanuel Macron described as a racist terrorist attack on 23 October. The previous day, the mayor of Trappes had referred to an Islamophobic attack.
