Angola's draft general state budget for 2027 provides for the removal of suspensions and cuts to certain benefits granted to political office-holders, MPs and magistrates, which were introduced from 2018 onwards. The proposal was submitted to the National Assembly last week, according to Expansão.
The measures introduced in 2018 included the suspension of housing, maintenance and relocation allowances, restrictions on certain lifetime pensions and access to state vehicles for political office-holders and magistrates. Installation allowances had been cut by 50%, with the reduction brought down to 25% in 2026, Expansão reports.
The 2027 budget proposal comes as Angola plans expenditure of 37.3 trillion kwanzas. The country also expects 2 billion dollars less in oil revenue, according to budget details reported by Expansão.
