AFSC Chi Peace’s 2026 youth programme focuses on the prison complex and youth justice, aiming to engage more with young detainees. The organisation wants to develop alternatives to imprisonment and bring its abolitionist work closer to the realities experienced in prison, according to AFSC Chi Peace.
AFSC Chi Peace’s youth programme is focusing this year on youth imprisonment and the youth justice system, the American organisation American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) announced on 26 October. The programme aims in particular to involve more young people who are imprisoned or have relatives who have been detained in its activities.
Chi Peace is working with the Final 5 campaign, which seeks to close the last five youth prisons in Illinois. The campaign works with currently or formerly incarcerated young people, provides them with books and activities in prison and offers them internships both inside and outside the facilities.
The current youth action programme cohort has about a dozen participants. AFSC Chi Peace plans to familiarise them with the abolition of imprisonment, its history and the activities of the Final 5 campaign.
