An Israeli strike on Gaza’s Islamic University killed three people and wounded eight students, according to Palestinian sources and AFP. The Israeli army says it targeted a Hamas member, while Palestinian health authorities put the war toll at 74,544 dead and 175,692 wounded.
An Israeli drone strike on the Islamic University of Gaza, in the northern Gaza Strip, killed three people and wounded eight students on Sunday, according to Palestinian sources cited by AFP. Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City confirmed that it had received the three bodies and treated the wounded.
The students were on campus attending classes and some are in critical condition, according to the Palestinian Education Ministry. The ministry said that ten students and teachers had been killed over the past six days and that 95% of university buildings had been damaged since the start of the war.
The Israeli army said on X that it had targeted a member of Hamas’s military wing in the Gaza City area. It said it had “redirected” the strike after detecting the presence of civilians and announced an investigation, without specifying whether the university victims had been hit accidentally. Gaza’s Civil Defence also reported five other deaths on Sunday: three in Khan Younis, in the south, one in Deir al-Balah, in the centre, and a fifth victim elsewhere in the territory.
The strike came after an Israeli bombardment that killed at least three people in Gaza, reported on 25 October, and as 13 people were killed in 24 hours by Israeli gunfire in Gaza. The death toll from the war since 7 October 2023 has now reached 74,544, with 175,692 wounded, according to the Palestinian health authorities.
