Belgian Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany will remain in hospital after collapsing at the training ground, and his recovery is expected to take several weeks. Club sporting director Max Eberl says his condition is stable and tests are continuing to determine the illness, according to Vanguard.

Vincent Kompany, the Belgian Bayern Munich coach, will remain in hospital for several weeks after collapsing at training on Friday because of a virus. The German club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, said on Saturday that his condition was stable and tests were continuing, Vanguard reports.

Vincent Kompany’s English assistant, Aaron Danks, will lead Bayern Munich against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Max Eberl said the club was not yet trying to set a precise length of absence, but that it should be counted in weeks rather than days.

Bayern Munich’s reserve-team match was postponed after the coach fell ill, while the Bundesliga fixture will go ahead. Germany captain Joshua Kimmich will also miss the match for personal reasons, Aaron Danks confirmed.

Vincent Kompany had already been a doubt for the Champions League match against Arsenal on 20 October because of the virus. He later explained that his condition had worsened after he tried to carry on despite being ill, according to Vanguard.
