UN experts say genocide continues in Gaza

Independent UN-mandated experts say the ceasefire has not ended acts of genocide they attribute to Israel in Gaza and also accuse Israeli forces of crimes against humanity in the West Bank. The report published on Monday could inform prosecutions at the International Criminal Court, according to the Associated Press.

A group of independent UN-mandated experts says the ceasefire in Gaza has not ended acts of genocide it attributes to Israel. In a report published on Monday, the Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory says Israel “continues to commit genocidal acts with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in Gaza”, according to the Associated Press (AP).

Since the ceasefire was signed in October 2025, the share of Gaza controlled by Israeli forces has reportedly risen from 53% to at least 60%, the commission said. Israeli fire along the advancing front line is said to have killed at least 196 Palestinians during that period, including 18 women, 32 boys and 11 girls.

The report also accuses Israeli soldiers and prison guards of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the West Bank, including extermination, torture and rape. Israel’s mission in Geneva called for the commission to be dissolved, denouncing a “disinformation campaign” on X. Israel rejects the genocide and sexual assault accusations. AP says it has not independently corroborated several detailed testimonies in the report concerning alleged sexual violence against Palestinian detainees since October 2023.

The commission says it is documenting allegations and evidence of crimes so that those responsible can be held accountable. Its findings could be used by International Criminal Court prosecutors or other courts, AP reported. The report was published a day after a UN commission report accusing Israel of extermination in the West Bank.
