The president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, announced his death on social media and paid tribute to a close friend whose humour helped audiences through difficult times. The leader of the opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, also paid tribute to the comedian, whom he had met at the NUP headquarters in Kavule a week earlier.
Kapere Lufotose became known as a member of the Amarula Family group, alongside Allan Mujuni, also known as Amooti Omubalanguzi, and Nicholas Mpiirwe, also known as Messe Bontwe. His physical comedy, facial expressions and role in the Lufotose sketch made him popular in Uganda. He also appeared in Bobi Wine’s Mr Money music video and showed an interest in elective politics. In an interview with the Daily Monitor in 2013, he said he had turned difficulties linked to his appearance and health into a recognisable comedic style.
