Twelve flights were targeted by bomb threats in Europe, but no explosives were found and no injuries were reported. Several aircraft were diverted or inspected, according to authorities and airlines cited by AFP.
Twelve flights had been subject to bomb threats in Europe by Thursday lunchtime, but all the aircraft concerned landed safely, authorities and airlines cited by AFP said. Three Ryanair aircraft from Madrid, Copenhagen and London Stansted and bound for Sofia were among those targeted in Bulgaria. Two landed in Sofia and the third was diverted to Plovdiv.
The three aircraft were inspected and no explosives were found, according to Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry. Four aircraft bound for Prague also received threats, which Czech police deemed not credible but which nevertheless prompted security measures.
An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Rome was diverted to the French air base at Évreux. A Finnair flight from Helsinki to Rome was escorted by Italian fighter jets to Fiumicino, while another aircraft operated by the airline, travelling from Helsinki to Vienna, was also targeted. Two Wizz Air flights departing from Milan Malpensa for Bucharest and Warsaw were also affected; the one bound for Warsaw landed in Vienna. No explosives were found on the aircraft inspected.
This new series follows the bomb threats that disrupted European flights on 3 November and the diversion of a Dublin-Rome flight to Évreux.
