President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo believes the DRC’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force grey list can boost confidence among banks and foreign investors. He also expects easier access to financing and more investment, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic published on 7 November.

Congolese President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo believes the Democratic Republic of Congo’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list should strengthen confidence among banks and foreign investors. In a statement published by the Presidency of the Republic on social media, he presented the development as recognition of efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

According to Félix Tshisekedi, the development could facilitate financial transactions with foreign countries and access to financing for Congolese companies. He also believes it could encourage new investment, with expected effects on employment and economic activity.

The head of state called for reforms to continue to consolidate transparency and preserve the confidence of international financial partners. He congratulated the government, notably the finance minister, as well as the institutions that contributed to the DRC’s exit from the FATF grey list.

The statement follows one on 2 November in which Tshisekedi expected economic benefits after the FATF exit.
