Togo has launched a vaccination campaign in Kara against several animal diseases, including peste des petits ruminants, Newcastle disease and canine rabies. Subsidised doses cost 100 CFA francs for small ruminants and 50 CFA francs for poultry, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Resources and Food Sovereignty.
Togo launched a national animal vaccination campaign against five diseases in Kara on 30 October 2026, with doses available from 50 CFA francs, according to 24 Heure Info. The operation covers small ruminants, poultry and cattle, and targets peste des petits ruminants, Newcastle disease, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, anthrax and canine rabies.
The vaccine for small ruminants is subsidised at 100 CFA francs, down from the usual 500 CFA francs, while a dose for poultry costs 50 CFA francs instead of 300 CFA francs. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Resources and Food Sovereignty is organising the campaign with support from the West Africa Food System Resilience Programme, the Togolese media outlet reported.
The representative of the minister responsible for livestock, Dr Kolman Batassé Batawui, set a target of 70% vaccination coverage across all species. The prefect of Kozah, Colonel Faré Bonfo, called on livestock farmers, local authorities and partners to take part in the operation.
The launch comes after eight officials were appointed to the Ministry of Agriculture on 7 October.
