Three people were found dead on Tujereng beach, in Fantatinting, after a boat was discovered on the Gambian coast. The Gambian Immigration Department says the victims may have been aboard a canoe that capsized, Seneweb reports.

Three people were found dead on Sunday 8 November on Tujereng beach, in the Fantatinting locality, in Gambia. The Gambian Immigration Department (GID) said the victims may have travelled aboard a canoe carrying people seeking irregular emigration that capsized.

Officers from the border patrol unit and the migration management unit were sent to the scene after a boat was reported on the coast. The Gambian police, as well as emergency and fire services, were then called in for operations involving the bodies, Seneweb reports.

The GID said authorities were working with the relevant services to determine the circumstances of the tragedy. The discovery comes as the Gambian coast has seen numerous migrant departures from several countries in the sub-region, particularly Senegal, for several weeks, according to Seneweb.

It comes on the same day as the announcement of a migrant boat sinking in Kébémer, Senegal, which left 34 people dead the migrant boat sinking in Kébémer.
