Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, has been arrested in Florida by FBI agents, the US federal police, on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse images, according to Le Monde. The 82-year-old man was arrested at his retirement home in Lakeland, where he had just moved after returning to the United States.

The arrest reportedly followed the discovery of suspect material in places linked to Thomas Markle in Mexico and the Philippines. In Mexico, about twenty boxes were reported to the FBI in a storage unit in Rosarito, containing notably photos, publications, computer equipment and video cassettes; the Mexican authorities searched the premises and seized electronic devices and videos for analysis.

In the Philippines, police confirmed the discovery of explicit files involving minors on electronic devices at the former family residence in Cebu. Investigators are trying to determine their origin and establish who held them. Thomas Markle denies any sexual relationship with minors and says he never rented a unit in Rosarito.
