The family of Samuel Sitta, former speaker of Tanzania’s National Assembly, will organise several tributes to mark the tenth anniversary of his death on 7 November 2016. The programme includes the launch on 3 November of a book about his life, according to his son Benjamin Sitta, cited by Mwananchi.
A special mass is scheduled for 8 November in Urambo District, where Samuel Sitta came from, followed by a free medical screening campaign there from 9 to 13 November. The book will trace his life from childhood to his political career, Benjamin Sitta said.
Samuel Sitta led Tanzania’s ninth legislature from 2005 to 2010 and chaired the Constituent Assembly. During his term, Parliament notably investigated the contract involving Richmond, a case that led Prime Minister Edward Lowassa to resign in February 2008, Mwananchi reports.
