Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr on Sunday 1 November called on members of the All People’s Congress (APC), Sierra Leone’s opposition party, to remain united in memory of its former national chairman, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray. She was speaking at a Quranic recitation ceremony held in Freetown, four months and ten days after his death, Sierra Loaded reports.

Aki-Sawyerr said party unity, victory in the 2028 general elections and the pursuit of transformational development in Sierra Leone would be the best ways to honour Mansaray’s legacy. She offered her condolences to his wife and children and assured them that she would work towards these goals.

The ceremony also brought together former President Ernest Bai Koroma, former First Lady Sia Koroma, former Vice-President Sam-Sumana and other APC officials. It came after party candidates called for the release of Joseph Kamara on 10 October.
