The disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation has postponed until next week its decision on Jesús Owono, FC Andorra goalkeeper involved in the fatal collision with Jesús de Miguel. The delay is partly due to the Spanish striker’s family mourning, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation has postponed until next week its decision on Jesús Owono, the Equatorial Guinean FC Andorra goalkeeper involved in the collision that caused the death of Jesús de Miguel during the match against Tenerife. The postponement was reported by Mundo Deportivo.

The decision follows Owono’s direct red card for a challenge the referee deemed dangerous, describing particularly violent contact and excessive use of force in his report. The two clubs also have additional time to submit their observations, according to L’Essentiel.

The regulations generally provide for a one- to three-match suspension for violent behaviour without serious injury. However, Article 102 of the Spanish Disciplinary Code provides for four to 12 matches when violent conduct during play causes injuries or serious consequences. According to Spanish daily AS, a sanction of fewer than eight matches appears unlikely.

The match between Tenerife and FC Andorra, which was stopped with two minutes remaining, will not resume. The professional competitions judge confirmed the 2-2 score on Wednesday. Jesús de Miguel’s funeral took place on Thursday, which partly explains the delay before the verdict.
