South Korea plans to prosecute candidates using smart glasses to cheat in the national university entrance exam. Those caught could also be barred from retaking the exam for three years, according to Agence France-Presse, citing an education ministry official.

South Korea plans to file criminal complaints against students caught cheating with smart glasses during the national university entrance exam. The ban on retaking the test would be extended from one to three years, according to Lee Joon-hyuk, an official at South Korea’s Ministry of Education quoted by Agence France-Presse.

The new rules are not expected to apply to entrance exams scheduled for next month, as legislative adoption would come too late. The ministry nevertheless wants to implement them from next year’s exam. Three students have already been caught wearing the glasses during essay examinations organised by universities in Seoul.

The authorities also plan to assign an official to each examination centre to identify suspicious glasses. The devices can take photographs and videos and interact with an artificial intelligence assistant.
