Sierra Leone prepares ECOWAS regional fund projects

Sierra Leone’s Planning Ministry is strengthening coordination of the ECOWAS Regional Stabilisation and Development Fund project, with a national committee tasked with guiding interventions. A joint technical mission is to assess possible projects, especially for young people, women and vulnerable groups, according to Sierra Loaded.

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is preparing to identify national projects under the ECOWAS Fund for Regional Stabilisation and Development. The process began at the first meeting of the national advisory committee, Sierra Loaded reports.

The committee discussed its mandate and arrangements for implementing the programme, which is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. A joint technical mission is due to begin on 16 November 2026 to assess needs in areas that could be targeted and examine project proposals.

The fund aims to support stability and development in fragile regions through investment, capacity-building and interventions adapted to local needs. The advisory committee will set priorities, examine project concepts and coordinate the institutions involved, with particular attention to young people, women and other vulnerable groups.
