Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo estimates the financing needs of the next agricultural marketing season at more than 200 billion CFA francs. He calls for financing, storage and payment for crops to be secured, while their processing is developed, according to a report cited by Seneplus.

The financing needs for Senegal’s next agricultural marketing season exceed 200 billion CFA francs, Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo announced at an interministerial council in Dakar, according to Seneplus.

The head of government asked ministers and officials from the national companies concerned to address difficulties with financing, crop storage and payments to farmers and economic operators. He also presented the processing of agricultural products as a way to create greater added value.

Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo called on the public administration, the private sector and farmers to combine their efforts to ensure the season runs smoothly. Representatives of regional chambers of commerce, consumer associations and farmers’ organisations took part in the meeting.

The announcement came a day after the publication of a forecast of 44 billion CFA francs in agricultural arrears. The agricultural arrears forecast by Senegal concerns sums owed in the sector, separate from the financing needs of the new season.
