Rassie Erasmus has selected 37 players for the Springboks' upcoming Nations Championship Tests, including six uncapped players, three of them young Stormers players. South Africa will face France, Italy and Ireland, while several senior players are injured, reports Daily Maverick.
South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus has included six uncapped players in the Springboks' 37-man squad for the Nations Championship, reports Daily Maverick. Three play for the Stormers: fly-half Yaqeen Ahmed, lock Riley Norton and centre Markus Muller. The other three are Bulls utility back Luan Giliomee, Bulls winger Sebastian de Klerk and Sharks loose forward Manu Tshituka.
The Springboks will face France, Italy and Ireland, before a match during finals weekend at Twickenham. Their opponent in that final match will be decided at the end of the championship phase. All six uncapped players have played for the South African A team against Zimbabwe earlier this year. Ahmed, Norton and Giliomee were also part of the Under-20 teams that won the junior world championship.
Injuries have ruled winger Cheslin Kolbe, lock Eben Etzebeth, centre André Esterhuizen and fly-half Handré Pollard out of the tour. Erasmus said the newcomers had proved themselves with their franchises and that building squad depth was a priority, according to Daily Maverick.
