A road in Jozini, KwaZulu-Natal, was barricaded with stones by alleged members of the Jozini Congress Political after the local election results. South African authorities deployed officers to restore traffic and monitor disruptions, IOL reports.
Members of the Jozini Congress Political barricaded the P522 Machini road in Jozini, KwaZulu-Natal, with stones to protest the local election result in one ward, IOL reports. Provincial Transport and Human Settlements Minister Siboniso Duma said the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) had been deployed to the scene to restore traffic.
The RTI is also continuously monitoring traffic across KwaZulu-Natal. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution as heavy rains are affecting Durban in particular. An accident on the N3, at Park Rynie, left one person injured after a car overturned, said provincial Transport Department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya.
In Greytown, an operation targeting drink-driving led on Friday to the arrest of a motorist who attributed his alcohol consumption to his party’s defeat in the local elections. The provincial Transport Department said more than 7,110 motorists had been arrested since the launch of Operation Nenzani La Ezweni, which is due to be intensified ahead of the festive period.
The disruptions come after several checks and appeals concerning the local election results in KwaZulu-Natal, with 87 results to be verified and 446 appeals examined as of 7 November 2026.
