Residents of Polokwane, in South Africa’s Limpopo province, hope that a hung municipal council will improve the provision of public services. Residents of Juju Valley and Extension 76 say they are particularly lacking water and are calling for more development, SABC News reports.
Limpopo now has 10 hung municipalities following the local elections, according to SABC News. Residents of Polokwane want parties to cooperate in a coalition to address the needs of neighbourhoods, while others highlight the difficult living conditions faced by their communities.
The situation in Polokwane follows the local elections in which the ANC came first nationally with 31% of the vote on 7 November 2026. The party still faces the need to reach agreements in councils where it did not secure a majority, while MK is negotiating a coalition with the ANC in eThekwini and the South African DA is launching municipal coalition negotiations.
