Puntland President Saciid Cabdullaahi Deni has called on Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to resign, saying Somalia is facing a crisis requiring inclusive political consultations. He spoke in a broadcast on Puntland Television, according to Shabelle Media Network.

Saciid Deni rejected the dialogue proposed by the federal government to the opposition, calling it a waste of time. He also questioned Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s ability to organise elections and said meetings prepared by the Somali president would produce no result. The leader of Puntland, Somalia’s autonomous north-eastern region, called on its inhabitants to take part in any effort to “save the country”, while reaffirming that Puntland was part of Somalia.

The statement came after Saciid Deni rejected Somalia’s November national dialogue, published on 31 October. It also followed Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s summons to the Somali opposition over the elections on 26 October.
