Plastic surgeon Nishan Moheeputh was sentenced to one year in prison in a second indecent assault case and jailed in Mauritius. The incident took place at a private clinic in July 2015; the doctor, who has appealed, had already received a six-month sentence in another case, reports Defimedia.

Mauritian plastic surgeon Nishan Moheeputh was sentenced to one year in prison on Wednesday 28 October 2026 by the Intermediate Court in a second indecent assault case, reports Defimedia. He gave notice of appeal, but the prosecution opposed his release on bail and he was taken to prison.

Magistrate Magalie Lambert-Henry had found him guilty on 14 September. The case concerns an assault committed on 13 July 2015 at a private clinic against a sales and marketing manager who was 36 at the time. The magistrate stressed the seriousness of the offence given the defendant’s profession and said a sentence should send a strong message.

Moheeputh had already been sentenced to six months in prison on 25 August in another indecent assault case involving a patient who was a police officer. Found guilty on 7 July for offences committed during a consultation in April 2022, he appealed and was granted bail pending the hearing of his appeal.

The 28 October sentence followed the prosecution’s request for a prison term in this case on 20 October. The prosecution’s submissions against Nishan Moheeputh concerned the sentence to be imposed after his conviction.
