Mauritius's Energy and Public Utilities Minister Patrick Assirvaden is considering requisitioning 15 to 20 additional boreholes to strengthen water supplies. In Côte-d’Or, a requisitioned borehole already provides 1.2 million litres per day to nearby localities, Defimedia reports.
Mauritius is considering requisitioning 15 to 20 additional boreholes to strengthen water supplies, Energy and Public Utilities Minister Patrick Assirvaden said, according to Defimedia. He has submitted a request to the Water Resources Unit to this effect, as drought puts pressure on the island's resources.
During a visit to borehole sites on 24 October, the minister went to Côte-d’Or, Mauritius, where a borehole requisitioned from Landscope supplies 1.2 million litres per day. This supply serves Côte-d’Or, Saint-Pierre and Helvétia and aims to reduce pressure on the network supplied by the La Marie treatment plant. Assirvaden also visited boreholes in Tribeca and Valentina.
The move is part of measures to increase the Central Water Authority's supply capacity. Mauritian reservoirs had reached 59.7% full on 30 September, and Mare-aux-Vacoas could fall to 20% by the end of November, according to forecasts for Mare-aux-Vacoas.
