Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Transportation promises to examine compensation disputes linked to railway works in Zaria, Kaduna State. The disputes are delaying the extension of the line from Jadji station towards the Kano-Abuja railway corridor, according to permanent secretary Funso Adebiyi, quoted by Punch.

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Transportation has promised to intervene in disputes over compensation for residents affected by railway construction in Zaria, Kaduna State. Its permanent secretary, Funso Adebiyi, made the commitment during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Bamali, according to Punch.

Funso Adebiyi is due to meet the affected residents the following week to examine their complaints and the available files. The ministry believes that compensation disputes are contributing to the delay in extending the line from Jadji station towards the Kano-Abuja railway corridor, according to Punch.

The permanent secretary also said the ministry would consider a request to name the future extension after the grandfather of the Emir of Zazzau, in tribute to his historic contribution to establishing the railway in Zaria, according to the same outlet. The intervention comes after the inauguration, on 22 October, of a section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano motorway.
