Marsa Maroc, the Moroccan port operator, is expected to increase its container-handling capacity from 3 million to 9 million TEUs by 2030 thanks to the launch of the East terminal at Nador West Med, its development director, Reda Moukhli, said, according to MAP.
Marsa Maroc will operate the port’s two container terminals with MSC/Terminal Investment Limited and CMA CGM, two global maritime transport operators. The company also plans to operate a terminal dedicated to general cargo from 2029 to support the planned industrial zone, Reda Moukhli said.
The launch of operations at the East terminal follows the announced commissioning of its initial capacity of 3.5 million TEUs. It marks a new stage in the operationalisation of the Nador West Med industrial-port complex, launched by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan on 25 October, on the instructions of King Mohammed VI, according to MAP. The East terminal at Nador West Med started operations with this initial capacity.
