Senegal’s Financial Indictment Chamber on Wednesday ordered the release of Moussa Seydi, former director of the Prison Administration, in the case involving electronic bracelet contracts. He has been placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring, despite opposition from the public prosecutor’s office, SeneNews reports.
The decision came after a financial investigating judge rejected his request and his lawyers appealed to the Indictment Chamber. Placed in pre-trial detention on 15 June 2026 after being arrested at Blaise-Diagne International Airport, Moussa Seydi must remain at his Dakar home from 9pm to 6am. He may not leave the Dakar region without authorisation or contact his co-defendants or witnesses.
The former prison official is being prosecuted for alleged embezzlement of public funds, fraud, forgery of public documents, criminal conspiracy and money laundering. The investigation concerns two contracts concluded in 2023 between the Ministry of Justice and the company Cenko.
