A Moroccan education ministry circular sets assessment procedures for the three school cycles in 2026-2027. In primary schools, first-year pupils will be assessed through qualitative appraisals and automatically move to the second year; the ministry also plans one term examination per subject, reports Algeria 360.

Morocco’s Ministry of National Education plans the automatic promotion of first-year primary pupils to the second year for the 2026-2027 school year, according to Circular No. 522 published on 24 October. Their assessment will be based on qualitative observations and appraisals of learning outcomes.

Continuous assessment remains in place and takes into account classroom participation, written and artistic work, as well as practical performance. In primary schools, one term examination is planned for each subject, except music, visual arts and physical and sports education, which will be assessed continuously.

In middle school, pupils will take a written supervised test in each subject every term. Schools will have to organise the tests over one week, with a maximum of two tests per day. Teachers will mark the papers with the pupils and must complete this marking at least one week before the term examinations.

The circular follows the launch, on 25 October, of a helpline for pupils by Morocco’s ministries, announced in an earlier statement.
