Iran says its armed forces are stronger than at the start of its war with the United States, after eight months of conflict. Minister Abbas Araghchi also spoke with representatives of 12 countries in 48 hours to support diplomatic efforts, according to Citizen Digital.
Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said on Saturday that Iranian forces were “stronger” than at the beginning of the war with the United States and were at a higher level of alert. He said the army now had greater motivation, commitment and self-confidence, according to the official IRNA news agency.
Akraminia also said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until Washington responded to Tehran’s demands. The strait normally handles the passage of about one-fifth of global oil consumption, according to data cited by Citizen Digital.
Revolutionary Guards spokesman Hossein Mohebbi also said on Saturday that the range of Iranian missiles continued to increase “without pause”, Fars news agency reported. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he had held telephone exchanges with the ministers of 12 countries over the previous 48 hours, as Qatar sought to maintain diplomatic efforts to prevent a resumption of fighting.
Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Friday welcomed the “sincere intentions” of US officials to contain the situation and promote de-escalation. US President Donald Trump said Tehran wanted to reach an agreement, while stating that Iran’s economy and military had been severely damaged during the eight-month conflict. The conflict began in late February with US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
