Lando Norris took pole position for the São Paulo Formula 1 Grand Prix on Saturday 7 November in 1 min 27.470 sec, 204 milliseconds ahead of George Russell, according to Bénin Web TV. The McLaren driver will ultimately line up alongside Kimi Antonelli on the front row, as Russell must drop five places for a penalty linked to exceeding the permitted number of engine components.
Charles Leclerc, fourth in qualifying, will drop ten places because of another engine penalty. Liam Lawson, fifth in qualifying with Racing Bulls, therefore moves up to third on the grid, ahead of Nico Hülkenberg, sixth in the session with Audi.
Qualifying was delayed by heavy rain at Interlagos. The session resumed one hour and 26 minutes after its scheduled start, then Norris took advantage of a lull before rainfall intensified at the end of the session, according to Bénin Web TV.
2025 world champion Norris had not taken pole since the Spanish Grand Prix in September. His team-mate Oscar Piastri was eliminated in the second phase, while Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will start from the back of the grid because of their engine-related penalties.
