It is the company’s first international expansion after the United States, driven by the widespread use of Google services in India, TechCrunch reports.
Google has launched Dreambeans in India, its experimental artificial intelligence application that generates personalised visual stories from users’ digital activity. Available on Android and iOS, the application supports 13 Indian languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali, as well as English, according to TechCrunch.
India is Dreambeans’ first market outside the United States, less than two months after it was opened to all eligible US users aged at least 18. Google chose the country because of the interest shown by users and the significant overlap between users of Gemini, Gmail and Google Photos, product manager Gozde Oznur said at a press conference.
Dreambeans uses data from Google’s connected services, including Calendar, Gemini, Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube, to produce illustrated stories about users’ interests and daily lives without a prior prompt. The application can also animate some images using the Veo video-generation model.
In the United States, Dreambeans recorded nearly 55,000 downloads since its launch in June, according to Sensor Tower estimates provided to TechCrunch. Downloads reached around 5,500 in October, down 84% month on month, after the application was opened to all eligible US users in September.
