Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) is searching for people who allegedly helped a Syrian national arrested at Beirut airport with about 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine transported from Accra. It has begun efforts to identify and arrest accomplices in Ghana, according to a NACOC statement cited by 3News.
The arrest, made on Saturday 31 October at Rafic Hariri International Airport, was part of a controlled delivery operation conducted with the Lebanese authorities. Investigators allowed the consignment to move under surveillance to identify people involved at both ends of the network, according to NACOC.
The suspect, identified by his initials B.H., was travelling on a Middle East Airlines flight from Accra. Lebanese customs said the drugs were concealed in packaging and insulation materials to evade scanners, while electronic tracking devices were found in the parcels.
Lebanese investigators are also seeking to identify the recipient of the consignment. NACOC has not announced any arrests in Ghana in connection with the operation, according to 3News.
