Ghanaian police have arrested 40-year-old Roger Borbobli after seizing 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis in three suitcases at the VIP bus terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The arrest was carried out on 29 October by officers from the inspector-general of police’s special operations office, MyJoyOnline reports.
Terminal loaders alerted police after detecting an unusual smell coming from the suitcases. Borbobli reportedly told investigators that he was a farmer in Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando, in the North Volta Region, and had bought the parcels from another farmer named Benjamin. He reportedly valued the seized goods at 33,600 Ghanaian cedis, according to MyJoyOnline.
The products are to be sent to the police forensic laboratory for analysis. The suspect remains in custody during the investigation and is due to appear before a court, MyJoyOnline reports. The arrest came two days after a man was arrested with 37 packages of cannabis in Ghana on 28 October.
