Congolese Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo has called for the actors with whom Kinshasa is in conflict to be included in peace negotiations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He believes dialogue that excludes adversaries cannot lead to lasting peace, according to a statement reported by Infosgabon.
Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo has called for adversaries to be included in peace negotiations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), saying that dialogue which excludes those with whom one is at war “is not dialogue, it is a monologue”. He spoke in Rome, according to Infosgabon.
The prelate argued that opposing parties must be recognised as interlocutors, without this implying approval of their actions or positions. He also stressed that seeking compromise requires political courage.
The call comes after recent statements in favour of political dialogue in DR Congo. On 27 October, the cardinal had already asked Kinshasa to prioritise this path, in a call for political dialogue. On 25 October, the C64 opposition coalition had called for a national dialogue in Europe.
