Eswatini’s Ministry of Health spent only 12.6 million emalangeni of more than 101 million released for its investment projects, leaving more than 88.4 million unused. MP Sabelo Ndlangamandla challenged this financial management during parliamentary debate on the ministry’s performance, the Times of Eswatini reports.

More than 88 million emalangeni allocated to investment projects at Eswatini’s Ministry of Health had not been spent during the period under review. Of more than 101 million emalangeni released, only 12.6 million had been used, less than 13%, according to figures presented to Parliament and reported by the Times of Eswatini.

Matsanjeni South MP Sabelo Ndlangamandla asked for an explanation of how the funds were managed and called on the government to prioritise health infrastructure projects. He said these investments could support economic activity and create jobs for Eswatini’s citizens.

The parliamentary debate also covered access to medicines for non-communicable diseases. Sabelo Ndlangamandla said some patients travelled up to 48 kilometres to a public facility, only to leave without their medication. Manzini region MP Thandeka Mavuso and LaMgabhi MP Sicelo Jele also reported medicine shortages at public hospitals.
