Sierra Leonean MP Ibrahim Barrie of the All People's Congress is calling for greater transparency and results in the country's economic management. During a parliamentary debate on the presidential address, he proposed better control of fuel prices, agricultural investment and measures to tackle the cost of living, reports Sierra Loaded.

Opposition MP Ibrahim Barrie, a member of the All People's Congress (APC), has called on the Sierra Leonean government to strengthen transparency, manage the economy better and deliver measurable results for the population, reports Sierra Loaded. He was speaking at the opening of a four-day debate on the president's address to Parliament, during the inaugural session of the fourth session of the sixth legislature.

On the cost of living, Barrie called for greater transparency in petroleum product prices and fuel subsidy management. He also called for the Feed Salone agricultural programme to be strengthened through mechanisation, irrigation, storage, processing and access to markets, arguing that increased rice production should also improve farmers' incomes.

The APC MP called for measures to improve teachers' pay and working conditions, as well as a national response to drug use combining prevention, treatment, reintegration and action against trafficking networks. He also called for greater transparency in road contracts, particularly on the Masiaka-Kabala route, and more effective parliamentary oversight of public institutions.
