Dutch MP Ismail el Abassi has submitted 13 questions to Justice Minister David van Weel about the handling of Hajar’s disappearance. She was found dead in a suitcase in Amsterdam. He asks in particular why her family’s alert and her distress messages did not lead to urgent action, according to questions submitted to the House of Representatives on 28 October.
Dutch MP Ismail el Abassi, a member of the DENK party, submitted 13 questions to Justice Minister David van Weel on 28 October about the handling of the disappearance of Hajar, a 29-year-old Dutch woman of Moroccan origin found dead in a suitcase in Amsterdam. In particular, he asks why her family’s report was initially classified as non-urgent.
According to information presented by the MP, Hajar sent a distress message to someone close to her at around 11.15am on 4 October. Her family alerted the police at around 8.15pm after hearing nothing from her. They say officers asked them to wait 24 hours; Ismail el Abassi wants to know whether this instruction was given and on what grounds.
The Dutch Public Prosecution Service said on 23 October that Hajar had been killed on the afternoon of 4 October. Her body was found on 16 October in a suitcase submerged in the Amstel. A 23-year-old man is in pre-trial detention, suspected in particular of murder or manslaughter and of disposing of the body.
