Manchester United manager Michael Carrick said he felt pride rather than relief after the 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma. He particularly praised Shea Lacey’s decisive introduction and his players’ commitment, according to Punch, citing Fabrizio Romano.
Michael Carrick, Manchester United’s manager, said he felt no personal relief after his team’s 3-2 victory over AS Roma in the Champions League. He said he felt mainly pride in his players after their comeback at Old Trafford, according to comments reported on Wednesday by Fabrizio Romano on X and relayed by Punch.
Manchester United were trailing before Matheus Cunha scored twice in a tense finish. The Brazilian striker was then sent off, while academy graduate Shea Lacey contributed to the comeback with his assists after coming on. Carrick praised the impact of the young winger, who also took part in defensive duties as a right-back.
“I didn’t feel relief. I was genuinely happy for the players,” Carrick said, according to Fabrizio Romano. The manager also regretted Cunha’s dismissal while believing that his commitment matched what Manchester United expected of him. Cunha, for his part, described Lacey’s pass as “incredible”.
The victory ends a run of nine matches without a win for Manchester United, after the comeback against Roma. It comes two days after Carrick dismissed the possibility of leaving the club while his team remained in difficulty.
