Candidate challenges Zamfara North senatorial primary conditions

Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a candidate for the All Progressives Congress nomination for Nigeria’s Zamfara North senatorial seat, accuses the party leadership of failings and calls for guarantees for the internal vote on 2 November. He challenged the short preparation period and called for coordination with the electoral commission and security services, Tribune Online reports.

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Zamfara North senatorial seat, has challenged the conditions for the primary scheduled for Monday 2 November 2026. He denounced the short notice and lack of official communication during an exchange with journalists in Gusau on Saturday evening, according to Tribune Online.

Shinkafi said he had sent three messages to the APC national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, after discovering the election timetable on social media. He asked the party leadership to guarantee a transparent primary in line with electoral legislation and APC rules.

The candidate also called on the APC chairman in Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security services to remain neutral. He cited security difficulties in the north of the state and asked for the necessary preparations and consultations to be carried out.
