Botswana petrol price reaches 1,975 thebe per litre

The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority is raising the price of petrol by 154 thebe per litre and diesel by 283 thebe from 23 October. A litre will cost 1,975 thebe and 2,376 thebe respectively, driven by higher international oil and transport costs, according to Weekendpost.

Unleaded 95 petrol will cost 1,975 thebe, or 19.75 pula, per litre in Botswana from 23 October 2026. The price of 50 ppm diesel will rise to 2,376 thebe per litre, or 23.76 pula, Never Tshabang, chief executive of the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA), announced.

The increase amounts to 154 thebe per litre for petrol and 283 thebe for diesel. The price of paraffin remains unchanged at 1,833 thebe per litre. The new prices took effect shortly after midnight, at 00:01 on Friday.

BERA says the import costs of refined products depend in particular on international prices, shipping, insurance and exchange rates. Botswana imports its fuel and therefore cannot shield itself from fluctuations in external markets.

Brent exceeded 112 dollars a barrel on Thursday, its highest level since May, according to Reuters. Tensions in the Middle East and risks to tanker traffic have driven up shipping and cargo insurance costs. The global diesel market is also under pressure, with supply disruptions and low stocks, according to the International Energy Agency.
